Anthony Robles

The Youth Justice Coalition (YJC) is working to build a youth, family, and formerly and currently incarcerated people’s movement to challenge America’s addiction to incarceration and race, gender and class discrimination in Los Angeles County’s, California’s and the nation’s juvenile and criminal injustice systems. The YJC’s goal is to dismantle policies and institutions that have ensured the massive lock-up of people of color, widespread law enforcement violence and corruption, consistent violation of youth and communities’ Constitutional and human rights, the construction of a vicious school-to-jail track, and the build-up of the world’s largest network of jails and prisons.

Dr. Anthony Francoso

Dr. Anthony Francoso is a PCC faculty member in Sociology and Ethnic Studies. He was born and raised in East Los Angeles (ELA), went to Cal State LA to earn his Bachelor's and Master's degrees, then to UC Santa Barbara where he received his Ph.D. in Sociology. Dr. Francoso is the Program Coordinator for CORE, Community Overcoming Recidivism through Education, which provides support services to formerly incarcerated and system impacted students enrolling at Pasadena City College.The primary goal of CORE is to develop a holistic approach empowering students to succeed in higher education and beyond. The program focuses on building community, on and off campus, that will serve as social, emotional and academic support for our students.https://pasadena.edu/academics/support/core/

Javier Rodriguez

Javier Rodríguez is a double bruin, UCLA alumni with a BA in Anthropology 2017 and an MSW. Currently, he is the regional coordinator for the Rising Scholars Network

Dr. Alex Ojeda

As the NextUp/Guardian Scholars Foster Youth Program Coordinator, Alex Ojeda is responsible for identifying current and former foster youth attending Los Angeles Valley College and ensuring their needs are met. Mr. Ojeda was a transfer student from Los Angeles Mission College and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a Master’s Degree in Chicana & Chicano Studies from California State University Northridge (CSUN). He is currently pursing a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership & Policy studies.Currently, Mr. Ojeda is a professor of Sociology at CSUN and is the Executive Director of the CSUN MOSAIC program which provides university student mentors to “at-risk” youth attending continuation/alternative high schools in the San Fernando Valley. In addition, he has facilitated Independent Living Program (ILP) courses for current foster youth at Los Angeles Mission College.

Katherine Maldonado

Katherine received her BA in Chicana/o Studies from UCLA where she conducted research as a McNair research fellow. Katherine is a Pre-Doctoral Ford Foundation Fellow, American Sociology Association Minority Fellow and American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education fellow. Her research interests include gender, race, and class inequality, critical criminology, and visual and feminist methodologies. Research topics include state violence, criminal justice, child welfare, and immigration systems, mental health, and resistance in Latinx/Chicanx families.

Danny Murillo

Danny Murillo is originally from Norwalk, California. In 2012, he graduated from Cerritos College with an Associate of Arts degree in Spanish and transferred to the University of California, Berkeley, as an Ethnic Studies major. At UC Berkeley, he co-founded the Underground Scholars Initiative, a student organization and support program dedicated to supporting formerly incarcerated and system impacted students Danny is a co-founder and advisory board member of the Alliance for Higher Education in Prison. He serves as an advisory council member for the Vera Institute of Justice Safe Alternatives to Segregation Initiative, and was also their Program Analyst..
