Keynote Speakers

Ms. Lena Brown

Lena Brown was born in Southern Georgia, went to school through first quarter of college; Living in New York through a short stay &  took courses at a local community college, worked,. After moving to Washington D.C, she  took courses at a business school; left for California and while working went to Los Angeles City College part-time and earned a AA degree in Business. She married and  had a daughter and worked for many years various jobs. Lena worked in the University Transportation services  for 8 years and  applied to job in UCLA admissions office as an office manager.  While working for UCLA, she applied to UCLA and was admitted working full time juggling work and family responsibilities while attending school. After receiving her degree from UCLA she was  hired in admissions to do  transfer recruitment by Alfred Herrera.  Lena became the Transfer Coordinator in Undergraduate Admissions. Supervising the transfer program with other professional staff, and transfer advisors whose job was to give service to transfer students. One of my proudest time at the university(with other colleagues and students) was the establishment of the STOMP Program (Student Transfer Outreach Mentorship Program) was she coordinated  through its many successes for 16 years.

Antwann Simpkins

A native of Orlando, FL, however considers Atlanta, GA home. He is of Black and Native American heritage (Blackfoot and Cherokee Nations) and currently resides in Los Angeles, CA. Antwann’s interests revolve largely around race, law, gender and sexuality. While his blog offers his thoughts on a wide range of subjects inclusive of gender, politics, sexuality, and law. Antwann developed his analytical lens at Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA where he graduated Magna Cum Laude/Phi Beta Kappa in African American Studies and History; he continued his studies at the University of California, Los Angeles earning a Master of Arts in African American Studies in 2016 and a Master of Arts in Sociology in 2019.  He is currently completing his Ph.D. in Sociology at the University of California, Los Angeles. Antwann’s areas of focus are race, gender, law, police and state violence, the carceral state, as well as urban/suburban studies with expertise in archival and geographic information systems as methodological approaches.

Dominique Moye

Author of Speak Even If Your Voice Shakes, Student Affairs professional, and Owner of Sista Life Coaching, LLC. Dominique Moye has dedicated her career to empowering individuals towards being their best selves. Raised by a single mother and Grandmother, from the city of Inglewood, CA it was instilled in her the values of perseverance and defying the statistics. A proud first-generation college student she started at West Los Angeles Community College, receiving her Associates of Arts in Liberal Arts. Transferring in 2013, she was admitted to UCLA, majoring in Sociology, minoring in Education studies. After receiving her B.A. from UCLA in 2015, marrying her passion for helping others and education, in 2016 she pursued a Masters of Education (M.Ed) in Educational Counseling at USC Rossier School of Education. She is currently pursuing a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Counseling Psychology (Marriage, Family and Therapy) at Mount Saint Mary’s University.
