Recount Text

Recount text is a type of text that retells events or experiences from the past. It presents a series of events in the order in which they happened. 

It purpose to inform or entertain the reader by recounting past events or personal experiences.

Generic Structure

1.Orientation

Introduces the background information: who was involved, what happened, where, and when.

2. Events

A series of events that occurred, presented in chronological order.

3.  Reorientation

A conclusion or closing statement, sometimes expressing personal comments or feelings.

Language Features

• Use of past tense (e.g., went, saw, met)

• Use of specific participants (e.g., I, we, my family)

• Use of action verbs (e.g., visited, played, arrived)

• Use of time conjunctions and sequencing words (e.g., then, after that, finally, next)

Example of Recount Text

My First Flight

Last summer, I took my first flight from Jakarta to Singapore. I had never been on a plane before, so I was both nervous and excited. I arrived at the airport three hours early. After checking in and passing through security, I waited at the gate until boarding time. When I got on the plane, I was amazed by how big it was. I sat by the window and watched everything carefully. During the flight, the flight attendants served food and drinks. I took some photos from the window and enjoyed the view of the clouds. After about two hours, the plane landed smoothly at Changi Airport. It was an unforgettable experience. I hope to travel by plane again soon and explore more places.
