Exposition Text is a type of text that aims to present arguments or opinions about an issue, with the purpose of convincing the reader or listener.

There are two main types:

1.  ANALYTICAL EXPOSITION TEXT

Definition

An Analytical Exposition Text is a text that presents the writer's opinion or point of view about a certain issue, and supports it with arguments and evidence.It purpose to persuade the reader that something is true by giving logical arguments.

Generic Structure

1. Thesis Statement

Introduces the topic and states the writer’s opinion.

2. Arguments

Provides reasons and evidence to support the opinion. Each paragraph gives a separate reason.

3. Conclusion

Restates the main idea or summarizes the arguments.

 Language Features

• Use of simple present tense

• Use of internal conjunctions (e.g., however, therefore, moreover)

• Use of emotive and persuasive language

• Use of passive voice

• Use of modal verbs (e.g., should, must, have to)

A hortatory Exposition Text is a text that persuades the reader to do or not to do something, by presenting argument and a recommendation. It purpose to encourage or suggest that the reader take a specific action based on arguments.

Generic Structure

1. Thesis Statement

Introduces the issue and the writer’s point of view.

2. Arguments

Gives supporting reasons why the issue is important or should be acted on.

3. Recommendation

Suggests what the reader should or should not do.

Language Features

• Use of simple present tense

• Use of modal verbs (e.g., should, must, need to)

• Use of recommendation or suggestion verbs (e.g., suggest, recommend, advise)

• Use of logical connectors (e.g., firstly, consequently, in conclusion)

People Should Reduce Single-Use Plastic

Plastic waste has become a major environmental issue worldwide. Most of this waste comes from single-use plastics, such as plastic bags, straws, and packaging, which are used once and then thrown away. To protect the environment and future generations, we must reduce the use of single-use plastics.

First, single-use plastics take hundreds of years to decompose, and during this time, they pollute land, rivers, and oceans. Marine animals often mistake plastic for food, which leads to injury or death. This not only harms the ecosystem but also disrupts the food chain, which eventually affects humans.
