El castillo de Portezuelo se alza sobre un cerro apartado de la localidad cacereña de Portezuelo, aunque también se conoce como castillo de Marmionda. Su nombre "Marmionda" se debe a una bella doncella mora, hija del señor de la fortaleza, en torno a la que se desarrolla una de las leyendas que acompañan a la historia de este recinto defensivo.
Podemos observar las almenas, la puerta principal, la torre del homenaje, el patio de armas y la muralla que se conserva generalmente en buen estado. La mayoria de las almenas están derruídas pero podemos diferenciarlas. La puerta principal está disfigurada pero podemos ver los arcos que la forman.
El castillo fue construído a principios del siglo XII y Fernando II se lo concedió a la Orden del Temple. Rápidamente fue recuperado por los musulmanes en 1196. En 1213 fue conquistado por Alfonso IX de León.
Desde su primera edición, a finales del 2007, con periodicidad anual, en las inmediaciones del castillo se disputa una competición atlética conocida como la Subida al Castillo de Portezuelo, organizado por distintas administraciones locales y regionales y establecimientos de la localidad de Portezuelo.
Portezuelo's castle raises on a isolated hill from the town of Portezuelo, though also it is known as Marmionda's castle. His name "Marmionda" is due to a beautiful maiden, daughter of the master of the stronghold at the medieval ages. It developed one of the legends that they accompanied on the history of this defensive fortress.
Battlements can be observed, the main gate, the keep, the bailey and even the courtain walls are in good conditions. The mayority of the battlements are spoilt but we can differ them. The main gate is lost but we can see the archs that form it.
The caslte was built in the beginings of the XII century and Fernando II gave it to the Rule of Temple. Rapdly it was recovered by the muslims in 1196. Finally, it was conquered in 1213 by Alfonso IX of Leon.
From its firts edition in 2007, every year, in the surrounding areas of the castle an athletic career is disputed known like "La subida al Castillo de Portezuelo" organised by diferent local and regional administrations and establishments of the locality of portezuelo.
