The Frog's Singing School
Homer N. Bartlett
Throughout the nineteenth century, singing schools allowed people to socialize while building musical skills for worship and entertainment. Several pieces in this website hail from the singing-school tradition. This piece takes a whimsical look at the singing school. It's not all fun and games, though, as the piece demands precise intonation through close dissonances, clear articulation, and artful control of tone.
