A very interesting block for traditional art. I got to do a lot of life drawing which has really helped with the super hero / villain brief. I even found myself drawing a lot of full bodies from imagination at times.. not the most efficient way to go about it but it definitely tells me I am improving!! Rendering the models without a reference was challenging but it was really exciting to see the progress I was making with each piece I completed. I'm happy with the outcomes I produced here but I would have liked more interesting subject matter. Drawing the figures were such a cool experience but I would have loved it if we where allowed to have done some more dynamic poses with foreshortening and dramatic lighting!!! I can't wait until we progress to that stage >:D

My favourite digital art brief to date! I loved all of the exploration and ideation and despite it being the most challenging, it has also been the most rewarding. I am proud of the work I produced for this brief and have definitely gained confidence in myself through it. I have been surprised with how the rendering skills I have built in traditional art has translated into digital painting. I still find it super amusing how indecisive I can be once there is a lasso tool and a reverse button at my disposal within a space where there are no right or wrong answers though.
I definitely enjoy designing characters more than environments because I am more aware of the workflow that takes you to a finished character design - but it definitely doesn't feel easier than environments, I'm just more accustomed to it.

Digital sculpting has been amazing! I definitely had a few melt downs in the process of learning the new software but only because I was so passionate about it that I was worried about letting myself down. We went over retopping, PBR textures, and baking. I didn't produce an exciting assessable outcome for game production in this block because I wanted to spend my time building my skills in digital sculpting which I think is far more important than a grade. I also wanted to save my time for Digital art in this block because it is important for game production in block 4. Despite them not being finished pieces, I am really happy with my donnald duck sculpt and Zendaya study. The Donald Duck sculpt not only helped me learn the software on the first day, but it also helped show me how creative and fun the process can be.
I'm so excited for this block. Characters are my favourite subject :) I am really excited about our super hero/ super villain brief and to learn digital sculpting for the first time. Reflecting from last block, I should try to be more proactive and have better time management (which I don't think will be a struggle here since I am sure I will be addicted to all the briefs), research and use references more effectively by annotation and breaking them down, try your best to keep up with the new software material being taught in the lessons and leave your perfectionism at the door because it holds you back in trying new processes and workflows.
This has got to be the block with my best uni moments in my course so far. Studying human anatomy, having fun designing my super villain, and sculpting in Zbrush has all been so much fun! Finally moving onto characters has been so exciting that I managed to revive my confidence from it's deteriorated state coming out of Block 2. My time management has improved since last block but I can always improve my efficiency when designing. Once I handed in my work, Looked at the amazing videos by FZD School of Design and their time management tips and exciting design work. I will definitely try to implement these new workflows and work ethics when going forward into block 4.
Like block 2, I feel like I still have a long way to go when it comes to my referencing and historical influence. I rarely dig deep into historical influences or story which leaves my designs looking very base level and hollow. I REALLY need to up my research and improve my way of gathering influences and making my PowerPoints more informative.
