Traditional art practices was mentally tough but after completing the queen's building, it was very rewarding. I am really happy that I pushed myself further in this block for Traditional practices by choosing to study more complex setups and extreme perspectives as well as going out of my comfort zone and not only drawing buildings and environments, but also starting to draw things like folds and foliage from imagination.
I also extreamly enjoyed attending my very first life drawing sessions at the drawing centre but I wish I gave myself more time to attend all sessions. I should really push myself to be up to date on my coursework so that I don't miss out on any further sessions from now on. (and have a better sleep routine so I don't sleep through Wednesday's life drawing sessions....)

Ironically, in contrast to last block, I was most excited about working on my digital art project. I really enjoyed designing all the different versions of the house and trying to balance aesthetics with functionality; exploring a variety of different and exciting concepts. Despite this, I am slightly disapointed with how I managed my time and am not confident or satisfied with my PowerPoint presentation because it doesn't include any thorough research on historical influences or architectural movements / inspirations which could have aided my design choices. I should have done a lot more research on time periods and it's effect on it's architecture. I clearly have a lot to learn about enviromnent art and designing buildings and spaces. I am also aware that I was really indecisive with my designs and although I still made up for it by producing a lot of itterations, I didn't concetrate my time which therefore ate into my final outcome time.

We learnt about modularity and it's uses, trim sheets, and adding different textures onto a single asset by using a multi/sub-Object material.
I feel like Game production really took a back seat for me in this block. I spent so much important session time iterating my house design instead, which wasn't the main goal for the brief. I shouldn't have worried so much about creating a cool design and instead should have worked on trim sheets with the rest of the class.
I feel like my textures are nowhere near the quality I would have hoped for and I didn't get to add alphas or props to make the space feel lived in or believable. This was a big step up from just sculpting a treasure chest so I can't blame myself for wanting to try my best in it's design, but changing my design four weeks in wasn't the greatest idea.
I think this block will be particularly challenging for me because it focuses on buildings and environments which I never study or design. I really hope to improve my compositions and my ability to drawing environments in this block, but most importantly; learn to enjoy drawing and designing them.
Drawing and designing buildings did not come easy to me but it was definitely a valuable learning experience. I still find them extremely tedious, however, I am pleased to say that I have found a joy in designing them. I particularly liked learning about composition in this block and thinking about shape language and shape design. The most difficult yet rewarding aspect of this block was the creativity needed to complete these tasks. every single task in this block required us to really think about what it is we are designing or studying to change and improve it - contrasting heavily to last block's work which focused on emulating exactly what we saw for the purpose of building a strong foundation.
Compositions and core shadows are definitely things I still need to work on but I feel I have learnt a lot through the exercises carried out in Traditional art practices and the lectures in digital art practices. The book 'Framed Perspective Vol.1 by Marcos Mateu-Mestre' was a fascinating read and introduced me to excitingly creative new ways of using perspective to construct complex designs in perspective accurately. I didn't get to use most of these new ideas during this block because all the practicals required us to either complying to an isometric grid or a simple perspective grid, but I am excited to hopefully use these new methods in the near future for things like vehicles, props and more complex environment illustrations.
