You know how the story goes "football changed my life, but Carson Newman saved my soul." Coach Sparks taught many of us how to become a man. He was the first man in my life to say hey I love you. He had a lasting impact on my life and I could never repay him. He taught me everything I needed to know about being a man and how to deal with certain emotions that men go through at the age of 18-23. He showed us how to live the right way through the love of Jesus Christ. The coolest part was that he allowed you to do it in your own time. He knew his way was right and eventually you would come around. I came around and I am so thankful to have had a coach like Coach Sparks in my life to show me how to love, and show mercy and grace to everyone around them.

Mike Clowney has made a tremendous impact on my life. He has been a mentor from a coaching standpoint, but more so from a spiritual perspective. He has always provided guidance and been there to help me and guide me throughout my career.

Lamar Brown gave me an opportunity to coach at a program with a high tradition of winning. Along the way he proved to me that you could be a very good coach if you develop the relationship piece of coaching. This would be the piece that would separate me from everyone else and help me with recruiting at the college level or developing kids at the high school level.

Through his years at Cartersville High School and even before he has always stayed in touch and offered sound advice on potential job openings or working camps with each other in the Summer. He has been a vital piece to my professional development over the years.

Coach Rosser made an immediate impact on me personally as well as on my coaching philosophies. He has been the one who challenges the way I think and drives me to get better and look outside my own understanding for information whether that be through a book or conversation. He has just come off two back to back state championship victories and seeing him teach and coach up other coaches has been a pleasure to watch and he will be the first to tell you its all about the relationships.
