Back to Back quarter final appearances, was with a great staff, and the kids bought in. The first time in my coaching career I was able to see everything come together from conception to reality. They were a great group of kids to be around everyday. State Championship caliber team.
Coaching a guy who can compete in the NFL was an eye opening experience for me. The work that he put in every single day in order to accomplish that dream was mind blowing and quite frankly I have never seen anyone work so hard at one thing ever. He told me he wanted to go to the NFL and at 6'3" 210 pounds and running a 4.3, I knew that if anyone was going to make it, it was going to be Dorren. He was relentless with his technique, wanted to get better each and every day, and wanted to be coached really hard. Seeing a young man's dream be acheived after being passed up with big time college offers, to realizing he was a top tier talent, and then seeing him put pen to paper was a beautiful thing. What a great story he will be able to tell his beautiful daughter one day. HE DID IT!!!
What an awesome experience this was. I had the opportunity to work with professional athletes at a high level and go on to be league champions. Many players from that team went to play in Canada as well as free agents for several NFL teams.
I was always told to run your position group as if you were the head coach of that position. Every job that I have had prior to landing this job has prepared me to make the transition into being a head coach. My wife and I had prayed for an opportunity to come up for our family and we did not care where. We wanted to be faithful with our prayer and knew that wherever God sent us we would do our very best to honor his calling. We are honored to be here in Lake Placid serving this community and this school. Our first year was filled with firsts. We had the opportunity to take our team to New Orleans to play John Curtis Christian High School. They were ranked in the top 10 in the country at the time, but for me it was about more than the game. We had 20 kids who had never been out of the state of Florida and out of the 38 we took on the trip 30 of those kids had never stayed in a hotel before. That trip is something that I feel those kids will remember for the rest of their lives and truly was a highlight to see their faces.
