We are smashing through the term, with Week 7 already ticked off the calendar. It’s been another busy fortnight filled with energy, fun, and community spirit around our kura.
Last Thursday, we held our annual Carlton Cross Country and Fun Run. What an awesome afternoon. The main focus was all about getting active, giving it a go, and enjoying ourselves, and our tamariki certainly delivered. It was fantastic to see heaps of parents and whānau cheering from the sidelines. Your support makes a massive difference to the kids as they push hard. I was very pleased to see that our student attendance figure that day was one of the highest all term.
Following on from our school event, our Carlton team is heading off to the Aranui Interschool Cross-Country next Tuesday. All the best to our runners representing the school. Run hard, enjoy the challenge, and feel the pride of competition.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for the Whānau Walk-Through on Tuesday afternoon. It was brilliant to see so many parents and whānau joining in. It provided a great opportunity to pop into the classrooms, connect with our students, and see the amazing learning in action.
We extended a welcome to join us next Monday afternoon at 2.30 for our school assembly. We have a He Puna Puaki Reo sharing a special item, alongside a performance from Miss T’s dance group. It’s set to be a fantastic showcase of our students' talents, and a chance to celebrate some successes.
Our Year 5 and 6 students have enjoyed Ballroom Dancing over the past few weeks with Mark Glastonbury. An official Carlton Dance Team has now been selected to compete at the Whanganui Championships on Friday, September 18, at the Memorial Hall. Congratulations to those selected.
Finally, our student-led lunchtime Volleyball Tournament has been a massive hit. The enthusiasm has been obvious, and we are now closing in on the final pool games to decide our champion team. Kudos to the students for running a tight, fun competition.
Thank you for your continued support of Carlton School. The partnership between home and school is one of our greatest strengths, and together we can ensure every child experiences success, feels valued and enjoys coming to school each day.
If you have any concerns or queries I can be contacted at 0278562962 or gjohnston@welearn.school.nz. Additionally, all our teachers can be contacted through their work emails, which are available on our school website.

2027 New Entrant Enrolments - Out of Zone
At Carlton School we operate an enrolment zone in order to reduce the risk of overcrowding. Students who reside in the home zone have an automatic right to enrol at our school. Full details of the enrolment zone boundaries can be found here.
If you would like your child to attend Carlton in 2027 and you live outside our home zone, you must apply to participate in the ballot. Out of zone places for 2027 will be advertised on our website by 15th September 2026.
Applications close on Monday 12th October 2026. If there are more applications than places available, selection will be by random ballot within each priority group. If required, the ballot will be held on Friday 16th October 2026.
All out of zone families will be advised of the result of the application by Wednesday 21st October 2026.
We encourage students who live within the home zone to complete the enrolment form as soon as possible.
Please contact the school office if you have any questions regarding enrolments for 2027.
Early Pick Ups
If you need to pick up your child from school before 3pm, you will need to come to the school office to sign them out, then you will need to go to their classroom to collect them from there yourself. This minimises the disruption to their learning and the rest of the class.
Library Stocktake
We are doing a stocktake of our school library during the last week of term. Please make sure your child has returned any library books you have at home by Friday 18th September.
Year 5 and 6 Camp Payment
A reminder that payment for the Year 5 & 6 2026 camp is due by Thursday 24th September. The true cost of camp is $270 per child, but we are asking families for a minimum contribution of $40 per child. Families who are able to contribute more are very welcome to do so.
Payment details:
Account: 02-0792-0018259-05

Reference: Child’s name + “Camp”
Thank you to the whānau that have already made payment.
