We’re nearing the end of term, and the year for 2025. The weather has been great, and our kids are enjoying their learning. We’re looking forward to a busy last few weeks of term.
We welcome Elly Arnst to our teaching team for 2026. Elly has an extensive background in outdoor activities and we look forward to having her enthusiastic nature around Carlton.
We are drafting classes for 2026, and these will be shared when we have finalised them in the last week of term.
Last week we held parent, whānau, and teacher catch-ups. These meetings are an important opportunity to reflect on your child’s progress and revisit their ‘Your Child Through Your Eyes’ goals from earlier in the year, and were very successful.
A reminder that all your child’s academic and attendance data, as well as pictures of learning experiences are available on our @school parent app. If you have not accessed this yet, or are having trouble, please contact the school office and we will assist. We no longer have written reports. These have been replaced by this online portal. The portal enables us to present more accurate assessment information in a more timely manner. If you have any questions about your child’s learning, do not hesitate to contact their teacher.
On Tuesday we were privileged to be an audience to the final of Carlton’s Got Talent. There were some fantastic performances from singers and dancers, actors and musicians. The show highlighted the amazing depth of talent here at Carlton. Congratulations to all our finalists, and in particular the winning acts.
Last Tuesday we sent a team of 25 athletes to the Whanganui Inter-School Athletics Championships. These kids competed against the best from other Whanganui schools. All our crew gave it heaps, and can be proud of their efforts. Special mention to the kids who gained places in their respective events. These are listed below.
A large group of students from Ngā Puna Hangahanga, Pūmanawa, Tutuki, Kawenga, Kōtuitui, Auaha, and Tārei went to the Mitre 10 Mega Tough Kid challenge on Friday 1 December. They had a blast, and smashed the course with hundreds of kids from all over the motu. It was great to see so many of our kids launch themselves into the obstacles and really enjoy the experience.
If you have any concerns or queries I can be contacted at 0278562962 or gjohnston@welearn.school.nz. Additionally, all our teachers can be contacted through their work emails, which are available on our school website.

Now that the weather is well and truly warming up, please make sure your child is bringing their school sunhat everyday. They need to wear them at each break time and while outside doing class fitness activities.
Please also ensure they are bringing a full water bottle to keep hydrated throughout the day.
Our assembly to celebrate and farewell our Year 6 students will be on Tuesday 16th December at 11:45am. Whānau are welcome to come along and then stay on for lunch with the students. Whānau please bring your own kai. Students will have the school lunch as normal.
If your child will not be returning to Carlton in 2026, please let the school office know as soon as possible. This assists us with class planning for next year.
Term 4 ends on Thursday 18th December at 12:45pm.
Ngā Puna Hangahanga and Pūmanawa Beach day has been changed, it is now on Tuesday 9th December. If any parents of these classes are able to come and help out on the day for an hour in knee deep water for the swimming party, please contact Whāea Tay or Whāea Holly. We need 1 adult to every 5 children in the water.
On Friday the 5th December we will be celebrating our school values and the awesome work the children have been doing in their house groups.
It begins with a shared lunch with whānau at school. At the end of lunch, we will walk to Gonville domain where the children will participate in some activities (if the children have a taonga that can fly, they are welcome to bring it along). We hope you can join us and participate with the children. All whānau are very welcome.
