Welcome back to Term 2. It’s been a great start so far, you can feel the buzz across the school. Classrooms are settled, learning is underway, and there’s already heaps happening both in and out of the classroom. It’s shaping up to be a busy and productive term.
A warm welcome to Helen O’Leary, who is joining us in He Puna Whāwhā (Room 9). Helen will be working with the class until our new kaiako, Samantha Odendaal, begins her role. We appreciate Helen stepping in and supporting our tamariki through this transition, and we look forward to Samantha joining the Carlton team soon.
Early this term, all classes participated in St John First Aid Training. This is a fantastic programme covering all the basics. Tamariki learned practical skills, how to respond in an emergency, and how to keep themselves and others safe. It was hands-on, engaging, and empowering. These are skills that stick with them for life, and it’s been great to see the enthusiasm during all the sessions.
Next week, our Carlton Netball team will be representing the school at the Whanganui Inter-School Tournament on Tuesday 12th. We wish the team all the best. They’ve been training hard and are ready to give it a strong go. A huge thanks to Jo Palmer and Hayley Collins for coaching this team.
Our Football teams had their first games on the weekend, and our Basketball team on Tuesday. These teams are looking strong and had a great start. Massive shout out to our fantastic parents and staff who have stepped up to coach these teams.
There’s also been a quiet and intense chess competition brewing indoors this term. Many of our tamariki have taken it up, and the strategic thinking on display has been impressive. We’re currently running our Carlton Chess Champs, with students playing matches throughout the week and results being compiled. It’s been great to see the focus, patience, and competitive spirit. Some very sharp minds at work.
We look forward to seeing a good turnout of parents at Monday’s assembly. Our Ngā Tūākana will be hosting the celebration of achievement across the school at 2.30pm in the hall.
All in all, a strong start to the term. Plenty happening, plenty to look forward to, and most importantly, great learning taking place.
As always, thank you for your continued support of our school and the opportunities we create together for our tamariki. If you have any concerns or queries I can be contacted at 0278562962 or gjohnston@welearn.school.nz. Additionally, all our teachers can be contacted through their work emails, which are available on our school website.
