Principal's Message - Te Karere a Te Tumuaki
Kia ora e te whānau, Greetings, Salam alikoum, Ceud mìle fàilte, Talofa lava, Dia daoibh, Sin sibh, Annyeong haseyo, Guten Tag, Tēnā koutou katoa, Kumusta, Choum reap sor, สบายดี Sabaidee, Ni sa bula vinaka, Nǐ hǎo ma 你, Namaste, Sawubona
The many greetings above acknowledge our wide and diverse school community. We have a significant number of nationalities at Carlton, and this creates a wonderful melting pot of cultures.
As we head into the final week of the term, there’s a real sense of enjoyment and pride across the school. It’s been a great term, full of energy, opportunities, and plenty of moments where our tamariki have stepped up, had a go, and shown what Carlton is all about.
Last week, our Ngā Tūākana rōpū put leadership into action, visiting the Whanganui City Mission to deliver close to $400 raised through our ‘Gold for Green’ day. What started as a fun way to mark St Patrick’s Day turned into an opportunity to show generosity, empathy, and community spirit. That’s leadership in its truest form; seeing beyond ourselves and making a difference for others. We’re proud of you.
We were also fortunate to host Te Puoro Whakaari ki ngā Kura / Opera in Schools, who performed Red. It was awesome. Experiences like this broaden horizons, spark curiosity, and give our students a chance to see and feel something different. You could see the engagement and wonder across the audience.
Adding to the buzz this week has been the Bikes in Schools team. The grounds have been busy, the smiles have been wide, and the learning has gone well beyond just riding bikes. There’s confidence building, challenge, persistence, and a bit of fun along the way.
Finally, I’d like to acknowledge Linda Attwood (He Puna Whāwhā), who finishes with us at the end of this term. We thank her for the care and commitment she has shown to our students, and wish her all the very best for what lies ahead.
As we move into the last week, let’s keep the focus strong, finishing well, looking after each other, and making the most of every opportunity.
As always, thank you for your continued support of our school and the opportunities we create together for our tamariki. If you have any concerns or queries I can be contacted at 0278562962 or gjohnston@welearn.school.nz.
