Today marks the end of Term 3 – what a great ten weeks it has been, filled with learning, activities, and opportunities for our tamariki to shine. Thank you for your support throughout the term.
We begin Term 4 on Monday 6 October with a pōwhiri to welcome our new students and their whānau.
Last Friday, a large group of our dancers represented Carlton at the Whanganui Schools Ballroom Dance competition. All of our tamariki did so well – some very smooth moves on display. A huge thank you to Mark Glastonbury for the time and energy he has given our students this term.
On Tuesday, a Carlton rōpū joined over 20 schools from across Whanganui in a hikoi up Victoria Ave, celebrating 50 years of Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori. It was a powerful occasion, and we are proud to have taken part in honouring and celebrating te reo rangatira.
This week we also say farewell and thank you to Cassie Pui (LSA across a number of classes) and Fredrik Sørenstua (teacher in He Puna Hangahanga). We are very grateful for the contribution they have made to our kura. At the same time, we warmly welcome Tay Rosie-Forrester as teacher in He Puna Hangahanga, and Stella Warner into an LSA position.
Thank you to all who have registered for summer sports. Information will be coming home over the next few weeks. A big shout out to our volunteer coaches who make these opportunities possible for our tamariki.
Our Year 5 & 6 students are already excited about camp at Forest Lakes in Horowhenua, which will take place in Week 2 next term – always a highlight of the year.
Ngā mihi for another wonderful term. I hope you enjoy a safe and restful break with your whānau, and we look forward to seeing everyone back, ready for a busy and exciting Term 4.
Thank you for all your support. We’re proud of our Carlton kids and the strong partnerships we have with our community. If you have any concerns or queries I can be contacted at 0278562962 or gjohnston@welearn.school.nz. Additionally, all our teachers can be contacted through their work emails, which are available on our school website.
Ka tu tahi tātou ki te kohikohi i te mātauranga hei oranga tinana, hei oranga wairua, kokiritia I roto I te kotahitanga - We gather to learn, to nourish, to flourish, to progressively move forward in unity.
Mā te wā, See you soon.

Today is the last day of Term 3. Term 4 begins on Monday 6th October.
The Board has determined there is likely to be up to twenty (20) out of zone new entrant places for 2026. The exact number will depend on how many in zone enrolments are received. There are no (0) places in any other year levels.
Out of zone applications close on Monday 6th October. If the number of out of zone applications exceeds the number of places available, students will be selected by ballot held on Friday 10th October 2025. Applicants will be notified of the result by Wednesday 15th October.
We encourage any families who reside within our home zone who plan to enrol their child for 2026 to do so as soon as possible.
You can find the enrolment form here.
In Term 4, all students need to have a sunhat to wear everyday. Hats must be blue bucket or wide brimmed (similar to the picture below). Please ensure your child brings their hat from Monday 6th October.
Just a friendly reminder that the drop off bay is only for a quick drop off. If your child/ren cannot exit your vehicle unassisted, please do not use the bay. This ensures no one is held up and it runs smoothly.
Please make sure you pull all the way forward when entering the drop off bay and keep left.
The driveway off Churchill Crescent is not to be used as vehicle entrance by Carlton parents. Vehicle access is for Arahunga families only and it is a pedestrian entrance for everyone else.
We're planning ahead for 2026. Please use this survey link to add your thoughts and ideas:
