Be present- put your cell phone away!
Use of personal cell phones, cameras, computers, personal technology, etc. are strictly forbidden during work hours. This includes use of any social media.
Each program will have an on-site CARD phone available to participants and staff should it be needed.
Safety: Distractions caused by cell phones can lead to accidents and injuries, especially in environments with sports and kids.
Productivity: Excessive cell phone use can significantly reduce productivity by diverting attention away from the tasks at hand- engaging with participants.
Confidentiality: Cell phones pose a risk to the security of sensitive information if used inappropriately
Professionalism: Employees represent the organization, and excessive cell phone use can be perceived as unprofessional behavior, affecting the company's image.
Designated Break Times: Employees are encouraged to use their cell phones during their designated break times. If a staff is on break, they are required to remove themselves from visibility from participants.
Emergency Situations: In cases of emergency, employees are permitted to use their cell phones but should do so discreetly and with minimal disruption to work. Staff must alert the on-site director that an emergency is happening.
Exceptions: Certain roles (usually program Directors) may require the use of cell phones for work-related purposes. In such cases, employees should adhere to guidelines provided by their supervisors.
Storage of Cell Phones: Employees should store their cell phones in designated areas to prevent temptation for unauthorized use during work hours.
Enforcement: Compliance with the no cell phone policy is mandatory for all employees. Violations may result in disciplinary action in accordance with CARD policies.
Photos and videos of program participants may only be taken on program issued devices. Staff may not use personal cameras or cell phones to take pictures or videos of program participants. Staff may not share pictures or videos of program participants on social media.
Each site is issued a cell phone which is to be used for the program only. Phones are not intended for personal use by staff or participants. Children may not use the phone unless directly supervised by an employee and use is for educational purposes or to contact a parent.
If a participant needs to use the site phone, a staff should make the initial contact with the parent to update them on the situation.
We have two Youth Sports iPads available for programs. IPads should only be used for programming purposes, and help look up participants in Active, show examples of drills on YouTube, or playing music on Pandora.
If necessary, programs will be issued two-way radios that are for staff use only. Discussions on the radio are not private and can be heard by others. Therefore, staff should exercise discretion when using these devices. Refrain from relaying sensitive matters such as personnel or behavior issues to other staff. Participants should never be given access to the walkies.
Music that is played must be “kid friendly.” This means the music is free of profanity, sexual innuendos, alcohol, drug or tobacco references, violence, and religious messages. The best option for playing music is using Pandora tuned to a kid radio station such as Kidz Bop or Disney. Only play kid-friendly radio stations, do not try to filter a non-kid station. We have several Bluetooth speakers available for on-site programming.
We have one "smart" TV available to watch movies on-site. All movies should be G or PG-rated, and parents must be informed of the movie title before showing it (typically posting the movie title at least one day before at drop off and pick up) We check for appropriate movies at: https://www.commonsensemedia.org/movie-reviews
