When supervising youth, it's essential to maintain a safe and supportive environment, ensuring all activities are conducted with respect and inclusion. Supervisors should also be attentive and engaged, fostering positive interactions and providing guidance as needed.
Staff should not be sitting, unless the participants are sitting. Yes, we understand you may be tired but it looks lazy and it not engaging.
Staff may only eat on-site if participants are also permitted to do so (water breaks, lunch, etc)- unless they are on a desingated break and not in visual distance of the participants. However, it is crucial to remember that if you are still on the clock and not on a designated break, you remain responsible for actively supervising all participants.
To maintain a safe and focused environment, staff are not permitted to bring visitors, pets, siblings, or children on-site during their shifts. All attention must be directed toward the assigned responsibilities and participants to ensure a high-quality experience for the youth. Distractions caused by non-work-related individuals or animals can compromise the safety, supervision, and success of the program.
