Bill OB.D.18 by legislator Josiah Whitfield from Giaudrone Delegation is an interesting bill attempting to save the grey wolf population. Passing this bill would help the grey wolf population by making hunting the wolves illegal. The grey wolf population is dropping, and this bill could really help them and all wolves in general. The author brings up that grey wolves are very important for the ecosystem, as they are at the top of the food chain. A downside of this bill is that the wolves could overpopulate and cause chaos.
Whitfield’s opening comments worked very well. His opening comments were a brief overview of his bill and he explained why it needed to pass. The debate for this bill was very much in favor of Whitfield, with many people expressing their support of it. Whitfield brought up the punishment for hunting wolves; $500 for a first offense, $500 and 1-2 weeks in jail for a second offense, and a $799 fine for a third offense or the death of a grey wolf, as well as 1-2 months in jail. I personally think this should be a bit higher. As said before, grey wolves are very important for the ecosystem.
A point brought up against Whitfield was that raising the wolf population would lower the fox population, which was already dropping. Whitfield acknowledged that, but didn’t respond to the point. Whitfield thanked all debaters for debating and helping him get better at making bills. He said that he was thankful and didn’t really care if his bill passed or not for his closing comments. Whitfield’s bill passed, with not many people voting against it.
