Yesterday Committee C, the third virtual committee in Washington YAG history, took place. Fortunately, not a single debated bill failed! They will all have a chance in the chambers on Thursday. In executive session, bills SB.03.10, CB.03.02, and HB.03.05 were prioritized.
Bill SB.03.10, a proposal to remove the electoral college, was written by Revanth Pothukuchi (Northshore Delegation). It was a memorial that entailed the removal of the electoral college from the constitution and, instead, used the popular vote to determine the president. It was easily the most controversial bill of the entire committee with five delegates speaking in favor, one speaking against, and extended debate time. At the end of it all, SB.03.10 passed in committee with 88% in favor.
The second prioritized bill was CB.03.02, Grace Schamber and Sander Stone’s (Whatcom Delegation) memorial to reduce road salting which would replace heaps of detrimental salt with natural brines. This passed 100% in committee.
HB.03.05 was the third prioritized bill. Isabelle Widrow’s (Thurston Delegation) memorial relating to college consulting firms. It’s purpose was to support low income students and prevent admissions corruption. The bill passed with 100% in favor.
Congratulations to all delegates debating their bills and everyone who has had their bill prioritized!
