Yesterday evening, I was granted the opportunity to have a short interview discussing the topic of bill #CB.05.01. This unique act called for the popular video game, “Stardew Valley”, to be designated as the state’s official video game. Although the original bill author, Zack Lampley, was unavailable, I was able to talk with the proponent of the bill, Hue Carter. Below is a transcript of the interview.
Is Stardew Valley one of your favorite games?
“Not… my favorite, but I would say it is definitely high up on the list-- definitely up there.”
What compelled you to propone this act?
“I saw it in the bill book and the original author was not there, and I found it very, very interesting, and I found it way too interesting just to not debate and just completely table. So, I overruled the table, so I could propone the bill and try to get it to pass.”
Why do you think this bill is important?
“I know for a fact that many people, including myself, play many competitive games. Many very rage-inducing games. So I think a game like Stardew Valley could be really calming, and I think it would make a perfect state game. As well as the fact that you can grow evergreen trees, and Washington is the Evergreen State. And the creator of the game, who is 28, is a full-blooded American. That’s why I think it would make an incredible state video game.”
What good will this bill do in your opinion?
“I think it will get the game more popularity and the popularity it deserves. Not only that, but I think that this bill will encourage those to play more calming, less rage-inducing games. And it could help a lot of people calm themselves and even help them get over anger issues.”
Do you have any closing remarks?
“Don’t rage too hard. This game will never, ever, make you rage. It is one of the most calming games out there. 10/10 would recommend.”
