Camp LogJam is held at Camp Byng, the Scouts Canada camp located in Roberts Creek on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, a short ferry ride and bus ride from Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver. The participants at Camp LogJam attend the camp with a parent/guardian or other responsible adult.
The campers will be met near the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal, registered in, and will walk onto the ferry. At Langdale ferry terminal, they will board a bus to Camp Byng. On arrival, each family will be assigned a sleeping hull, a wood floored, wood walled cabin with a tarpaulin roof. Inside the sleeping hull are beds - but you need to bring your own sleeping pads to sleep on.
Alternatively, families may bring their own tent to sleep in, and will be assigned a location to set up their tent.
Then it is on to the FUN! Camp includes crafts, games, hikes, activities, a challenge course, an obstacle course, a possible cookout, beach time, campfires, and more. On the last night there is an outdoor evening movie (weather permitting). Parents are with their children throughout the camp, working and playing, eating and sleeping, with them.
All meals and snacks are provided at the camp, and we can manage most dietary issues.
On the last day of camp, the campers are transported back to Langdale ferry terminal and take the ferry back to Horseshoe Bay.
Camp LogJam started in 1990 as a day-camp for Beaver Scouts in Pacific Coast Council of Scouts Canada, and was held in a church hall.
Two years later, Camp LogJam moved to Camp Capilano in North Vancouver. In addition to the day-camp, the Beaver Scouts were offered the opportunity to camp one night overnight during the week. Camp LogJam used this facility for many years.
Starting in 2011, Camp LogJam started doing day-trips and overnight camps to Camp Byng on the Sunshine Coast while still using the Camp Capilano facility as the base for the day-camp.
In 2014, Camp LogJam moved permanently to Camp Byng, using Haida Lodge at the camp for two-night and three-night camps. Except for 2020 and 2021 when Camp LogJam moved to a virtual camp format due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and 2023 when Camp LogJam returned to a day-camp format at Camp Capilano, Camp Byng has been our base ever since, and we are again at Camp Byng this summer.
Camp LogJam has been run throughout it's 36 years by Katharine Trueman, known to Beaver Scouts as "Ranger Rick".
