This course emphasizes the concepts and inter-relationships among cellular aspects of life that include growth and reproduction in plants and animals, evolution of modern plants and domestic livestock species, biotechnology, plant and animal genetics. Students will also study the impacts of ecology and natural resources on their environment. This course meets Biology academic content standards and fulfills a science credit to meet graduation requirements.
After successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Analyze soil properties to determine characteristics, functions, and usability.
Describe the ecology of Pacific Northwest forests.
Identify the roles of micro organelles in the cell.
Describe Mendelian genetics, mitosis, and meiosis.
Identify the role and function of DNA and RNA in genetics.
Describe the anatomy and physiology of plants and animals.
Describe the forestry industry and use dichotomous keys to identify tree species.
Design and carry out a scientific inquiry.
Discuss current events in the field of biology.
