Unfortunately, the February Front Range Division meeting was cancelled due to a significant snowstorm in the Denver area.
In March, MRR Pat Lana presented a clinic on “Modeling Vehicles to Compliment Your Railroad.” Pat covered methods of modifying and adapting vehicles to meet layout needs. He demonstrated techniques for modifying automobiles, trucks, farm equipment, and some boats and aircraft. This clinic will be presented again at the Region Convention coming up in early June.
April saw an interesting clinic by new member Gary Ratay. He was in Germany when the new Hauptbahnhof (Main Railway Station) was opened in Berlin. His clinic had video and still photos of the Grand Opening, as well as video of the various trains and station of the DB (German Rail). The Berlin HBF handles 1800 trains and about 350,000 passengers per day. For contrast Amtrak handles about 130,000 passengers per year thru Denver.
The March “Show and Tell” had Kris Blackmarr illustrating a new construction material called Balsa Foam. The material could be used for larger scale structures (i.e. HO and up due the thicknesses available). The FRD attendees were fascinated by Kris’ discussion.
Gary Ratay holds the FRD April attendees attention as he shows videos of the Berlin Main Railway Station. About 350,000 go thru the station per day.
The Front Range Division meets in the main building (Delay Junction) of the Colorado Railroad Museum at 7:00 pm every third Monday to the month. Exceptions are in August when we have our picnic and December when we have our Christmas party.
