BRUSH LAYERING
Brush layering involves the insertion of woody branches and brush into a slope face to help reinforce soil structure and strengthen the soil of the slope. In addition, these branches and brush help to limit and slow runoff, trap sediment and debris, and reduce erosion. This practice may vary in labor requirements and costs, depending on the size of the slope as well as whether the slope is natural or filled.
Overview:
Cut a series of 2-3 ft deep “benches” into the slope face
Insert 20-25 branches into each bench, layered and criss-crossed around each other
Cover bench with soil
