Satisfies a Fine Art or Elective Requirement

Prerequisite: None
A co-curricular course open to any treble voice with the desire to sing and perform. This class works on vocal and choral fundamentals including vocal technique, breath control, music theory, aural memory and sight singing. Analyzes, interprets, develops and refines artistic work for presentation.

and perform. This class works on vocal and choral fundamentals including vocal technique,
breath control, music theory, aural memory and sight singing. Analyzes, interprets, develops
and refines artistic work for presentation.

Year Long
Grades 10- 12
Satisfies a Fine Art or Elective Requirement
Some performances on evenings, weekends and during the school day. Students may need to purchase a costume. Fundraising opportunities will be available. Weighted credit is available through fine arts petition program.

Prerequisite: Audition required
Advanced mixed choir. A co-curricular course that works on vocal and choral techniques, music theory and sight singing. Performances in the community, state and beyond.

A co-curricular Advanced Women’s Choir that builds on the techniques of level 1 Buena Singers. This class works on vocal and choral fundamentals including vocal technique, breath control, music theory, aural memory and sight singing. Analyzes, interprets, develops and refines artistic work for presentation. Performances in the community, state and beyond.

Yearlong
Grades 10- 12
Satisfies Fine Art or Elective Requirement

Weighted credit is available through fine arts petition program. Concurrent enrollment in Concert Choir or another advanced Fine Arts performing ensemble required.

Prerequisite: Audition required
A co-curricular course with a select ensemble of advanced, mixed voices. This class works and performs at an elite level that builds on the foundations learned in the Concert Choir. Work on vocal technique, breath control, music theory, solo singing, aural memory and sight singing. Analyzes, interprets, develops and refines artistic work for presentation. Performances in the community, state and beyond. Concurrent enrollment in Concert Choir or another advanced Fine Arts performing ensemble required.

Course Fee: $12.50 (per the course fee of the primary chorus)
Receiving honors credit is an option for selected courses, this includes Marching Colts, Wind Ensemble, Show Band, Advanced Theater Technology, Theater Production Studio, Concert Choir and Rhythmix. While participating in a year-long major advanced performing ensemble, students will extend their understanding through involvement in a series of achievements. Students that petition for honors (weighted) credit will negotiate activities that address each of the following areas including: individual instruction, performance, academic content knowledge, and leadership/service.

Prerequisite: Upper level study in the Arts
This program emphasizes leadership skill development and provides an opportunity to continue engagement and learning at the highest level within a structured arts program. Students will build on previously-developed skills and practical application of previously-studied theory while expanding organizational, technical, problem solving, collaboration, communication and critical thinking abilities related to the standards identified in their selected Arts program. Goals for students on this team are set cooperatively by the student, teacher and Arts faculty.

Choir auditions are held every spring March - April and are slightly different for each advanced choir.

All students who audition for an advanced choir (Dynamix, Concert Choir, Rhythmix) will be asked to:

1. Sing “America, the Beautiful” a cappella in a key/range of their choosing.

2. Test aural/tonal memory (three pitches/notes will be played and the student will sing them back).

3. Know your key signatures (understand which note is “Do” or the tonic).

4. Sight-read (varies for each choir depending on difficulty)
