Service

Service Call of Our People (SCOOP) is the ideology that guides our Court’s actions for St. John the Baptist parish, St. Vincent de Paul ministries and the pro-life movement.

One service event for SJB that is immensely successful is the creation of fruit baskets at Christmas time. These baskets are delivered to all known homebound parishioners by our members. Also, our court has now become the hostesses of special receptions that are held throughout the Church year, such as, First Communion, Confirmation, and Graduating Seniors.

A large portion of our service year involves activities for the homeless and children through St. Vincent de Paul ministries. Catholic Daughter members help West Baton Rouge students by donating to and working on the annual Uniforms for Kids day. Serving lunch in the main hall at SVDP and preparing supper for the Sweet Dreams shelter are another way we serve the wider community. Build-a-Basket for Easter is one of our most popular and colorful activities!

The need for upholding the value of life at all stages is deeply felt by our members and is expressed through our public prayer life during the 40 days for life sponsored by the Diocese of Baton Rouge. Supporting legislation leading to the abolishment of abortion and participating in the BR Right to Life Chapter activities are another way we demonstrate our value of life. Annually, some members attend the Washington, D.C. March for Life and help sponsor/chaperon the youth of our parish to experience this national event.
