DIGITAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
DIGITAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
I was tasked with creating a 10-12 minute instructional video that is appropriate for a professional development context. The requirements were that the video be 10-12 minutes long, and contain both an on-screen instructor and a screen-recording. The remaining details of the video were flexible depending on the context of the information being taught.
The Instructional Video was intended for the teachers and staff in my junior high and high school building. The video is also appropriate for any educator in my school district.
The importance of using digital tools and resources to enhance collaboration between educators. The resources that I introduced were Destiny Discover, Symbaloo, Stivers Virtual Library, and Destiny Collections. First, I gave an overview of how to use these resources. Next, I assigned a learning activity to give the viewers practice. One activity that was presented was, "Click on the QR code and fill out the Google Form with a lesson idea that could be reimagined using one of the resources introduced in the video."
The core aspects of andragogy are rooted in the learner's "need-to-know," "self-efficacy," and "motivation." Knowles et al. (2015) assert that most adults are motivated to learn when there is a life problem to solve.
In my instructional video, I used the "Process Elements of Andragogy" as my framework. To prepare the K-12 educators, I provided them with the what, how, and why by using the SMART Goal strategy. I created a warm, inviting, and collaborative climate with my own screen welcome, and closing. I made sure to adjust the camera to make it appear I was looking straight at the viewer. Although it is somewhat difficult to mutually plan an environment that is synchronous, I used the feedback from a few teachers prior to planning. I asked questions such as "How comfortable are you teaching Destiny Discover to your students?" The survey I sent to educators prior to filming gave me some insight into which tools needed to be explained in depth. The objectives were mostly set by the lesson parameters of this assignment along with ensuring all learners have a basic understanding and knowledge of our online tools and resources. The learning plan design and activities were designed to give the viewers practice using the tool. Also, an opportunity to collaborate after the video on a lesson using the online resources covered. Lastly, the evaluation came in the form of two questions about accessing the online platforms. At the end of the video the contact information was shared should there be any questions or feedback.
To create this project, I used a Samsung Galaxy A51 smartphone, Arozzi Extra Wide Portable Green Screen, Sunpak 12" BiColor LED Ring Light Kit, Camtasia 2020, Snagit 2021, Logitech H570e Wired headset, and an HP Laptop14-fq0xxx.
