Week 1
IDL-7140
IDL-7140
Hello, Members of the Board,
I am here today to share the findings from this week's evaluation of D2L Brightspace and Google Classroom. Both Learning Management Systems (LMS) are popular and share a reputable reputation in the virtual learning market. The five components I will cover are as follows:
Setting-Up Course, Creating Modules, Attendance Tools, Creating Content Using an HTML Editor including Images, and Adding Demo Student and Doing Quality Checks.
I must make you aware that Google Classroom does not offer HTML editing at this time.
Add a "News Item"
Click on News
Then, New News Item
Type the headline, then the content
Now click, publish
Also, the calendar tab is where you can set up the dates of importance for viewers to review.
Create modules in D2L with a few steps. Efficiently organize your lessons and files.
To access the "attendance" tool:
Click, course admin
select, tools
activate the attendance tool
Adding images to HTML Editor is easy. Watch the video to learn how to:
insert image
upload
add, then publish
This tool allows the user to "test" how the student/viewer sees the content. Instructors are able to test view the LMS from the perspective of the user.
The "Stream" serves as the defaulted message board on the homepage. Updates can be found here for viewers to review.
Creating course modules in Google Classroom is intuitive. Find "Classwork" on the menu bar and add or create material on the spot.
Google Classroom uses the "Classwork" tool to create an attendance template. The video will outline the efficiency of creating the attendance template.
Google Classroom does not have a HTML Editor function at this time.
Add a demo student in Google Classroom with the same directions for adding actual student.
This week the LMS that has the edge is the D2L Brightspace. The module tool, attendance tool, demo student tool, and HTML editor were well designed and intentional. Whereas in Google Classroom, the user has to create an attendance template. Also, Google Classroom does not have a HTML Editor at this time.
