Week 2
IDL-7140
IDL-7140
Hello, Members of the Board,
I am here today to share the findings from this week's evaluation of D2L Brightspace and Google Classroom. I am also concerned about the social and emotional health of our students during distance learning. I assure you that both LMSs have the capabilities to engage the students and the teachers. Although each system has its own nuance, both are worth the time and effort to learn and implement. The following tutorials should give your committee some insight:
The five tools I will cover are as follows:
Create Electronic Gradebook Category/Items

Create Group Discussion Topics
Create Synchronous Web Conference Session

This week D2L Brightspace has the most comprehensive setup and usability. The Gradebook in D2L already has all of the parameters in place. The instructor can use the many training online tutorials to learn how to setup. Once the Gradebook is set up, the rest is routine. The Web conference tool also edges out with the Collaborative Ultra add on. D2L has the reputation of dependability for many years. The creation of groups in Google Classroom was not as succinct as the D2L platform. Users found "hacks" to create groups in Google Classroom. Google Classroom is evolving, but the updates are often implemented with little warning (Francom et al.,2020). D2L Brightspace is my recommendation for week 2.
