Week 3
IDL-7140
IDL-7140
Hello, Members of the Board,
I am here today to share the findings from this week's evaluation of D2L Brightspace and Google Classroom.
The Gradebook tools allow the teacher to integrate assignment drop off spaces, quizzes, and rubrics. The plagiarism tools are helpful to students (they can see where they should paraphrase). Teachers can use the tools like Turnitin.com to teach students about the importance of intellectual properties.
The five tools I will cover are as follows:
Change "GradeBook" settings. Create Electronic Gradebook Categories & Items (Integrated with Dropbox, Quiz, and Rubric)
Create Dropbox Assignments, Turnitin.com, and Grading Rubric
Create Quiz Questions in Question Library
Create Electronic Grades for Quizzes, Create Quiz, Modify Quiz Settings, and Add Randomizing Question Set to Quiz
Conduct Quality Check (Demo Student Drop Off Assignment and Instructor Grade Assignments)
Here is how to change the electronic gradebook settings in D2L.
Go to Grades
Click Settings
Select Personal Display Options tab

This week D2L Brightspace was the most complete with tutorials and very detailed instructions to follow to setup gradebook and make changes. Although the setup in D2L is very heavy loaded, once the tools are created the implementation should save time. Google Classroom's limitations included:
You must have Google Education in order to use the originality check as a student. I was not able to integrate a trial Turnitin.com account. This limited what I could test for the originality report.
Overall, D2L Brightspace is the most comprehensive and this is important when grades are concerned.
