EVERYDAY SUSTAINABILITY

HISTORY

In this class, we focused on the historical aspects of sustainability. We looked back at the history of the United Kingdom, more specifically London, and Germany to understand the sustainable choices that these countries have made today. From the pollution of the Thames to the impacts of WWII on Germany, this class has made it evident that sustainability plays a huge role in the creation of societies and the preservation of livelihoods. Professor Gioelli takes the history of societies and provides a new spin on the impacts of said historical events.

SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability is the ability or allowance for one to maintain themself without depleting natural resources. This trip and course focused on how we could be more sustainable as we looked at the practices that were developed in London and Munich. Whether this is through sustainable eating, industry, transportation, or even just small personal choices. This trip puts into perspective how different these countries are to the United States along with ways they could improve and what they have done a great job at.

SOCIETY

Now with both the historical and sustainable perspectives, we had to take the step of actually applying the concepts we have learned to society. It is one thing to say what didn't work and what could work, and it is another to see these concepts in motion. This course has helped to show how important it is to think deeper into ideas and assess all possible parts of them. For our groups to come up with a final project this step of the learning process is a crucial one to keep in mind.
