In my third and fourth semester at Fontys HBO ICT study I worked on a pretty fun project together with a fellow student and friend named Robin Heijboer. At the time we were both really into Overwatch, a first person shooter developed by Blizzard, so we came up the idea to make an app that keeps track of your statistics with real in-game data taken from the OW-API. The plan was to make the app work for both Android and iOS but because this was our first exposure to these platforms we didn't immediately go for a hybrid app. Instead we built two completely separate apps. Robin handled most of the design where I handled most of the coding. The design document is something we both worked on and it can be viewed on the left.
Being able to focus more on the code and having a very good looking design already made for me really opened my eyes to how useful it can be to work in a team. I didn't have to do any of the designs outside of the initial paper prototypes. All the hard stuff was done for me in programs like Adobe InDesign or Photoshop. This allowed me to work in some pretty neat features for the app like sound feedback when pressing a button, a theme and the option to compare stats with other players. The app was by no means perfect but I learned a lot about teamwork and good design. Both me and Robin were also really proud of the final product at the time so it deserves a place in my portfolio.
The document to the left is written in dutch but it's really only the designs that matter so don't mind the written text too much.
