About me

Hello everyone! My name is Amy Hood.

I am a second year student at the University of Pretoria. I am studying foundation phase teaching. I matriculated in 2016 from Penryn College which can be located in Nelspruit, also my home town. I grew up on a farm and schooled at Penryn College from Gr 00 until Gr 12. I then continued my adventure and went to the University of Stellenbosch in 2017. I studied teaching there as well but was unhappy and transferred to Tuks in 2018.

I was not always set on becoming a teacher. I had many ideas such as bio kinetics, nursing and teaching. However, what all of these careers had in common was helping people. I have always loved children and the idea of working with them. I worked and taught at a preschool for 5 months at the end of 2017 when I left Stellenbosch. This was when I realised, for certain, that this is the career I want to be doing. I love the feeling and experience of influencing, helping, imparting knowledge and building a child’s knowledge basis. Teaching them things for the first time and seeing their reaction and the way they learn, understand and grow as little human beings is the greatest reward I could receive. I am passionate in making a difference in the world even if it is one child at a time.
