Leaping into Literacy

Cockadoodledoo Oh hello there, My name is Tayla Roodt. I am second year studying BEd foundation phase which is Grades R-3 at Tuks in Pretoria. Studying is Pretoria has been a huge adjustment for me as I come from a small little agricultural town in Limpopo called Hoedspruit. And Pretoria is the furthest thing away from a small town. My Parents are Mango Farmers in Hoedspruit so as you can imagine I grew up on a farm and my whole life has been revolves around farm life. So having to up and move myself to a big city like Pretoria has been a huge adjustment for me, the big buildings all the cement, lack of nature and open spaces and most of all, all the noise and traffic ! Back at home the only noise I have to hear are chickens and the most traffic one could come across is a tractor. I chose to go through with this big change as I’m following my passion and dream of one day being able to be a Teacher. My passion and love for teaching children is far greater than any struggle I could face with my living environment.

Children are so pure and innocent untouched by the struggles of life they have so much happiness to share and such a willingness to learn.

The thought of being privileged enough to empower and sculpt the minds of the future generations brings the greatest sense of achievement and joy to my heart.

I will forever remember and have so much love my Grade R teacher and I hope to have that same effect on my children one day.
