PI

Tanim Jabid Hossain, PhD

Associate Professor

Dept of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Chittagong

Principal Investigator

Biochemistry and Pathogenesis of Microbes (BPM) Research Group

Biography

With a passion for exploring diverse aspects of microbial biochemistry, ecophysiology, and pathogenesis, my research projects currently focus on investigating the metabolic, probiotic and pathogenic activities of microorganisms and microinvertebrates, their physiology, and their contributions to biogeochemical carbon recycling.

During my academic journey, I had the privilege of pursuing a Ph.D. in the Glycometabolome Lab under the guidance of Dr. Tadashi Suzuki at RIKEN, Japan. It was a transformative experience that sparked my fascination for microbial processes of protein-glycosylation and catabolic pathways of glycoproteins.

As an Associate Professor, I'm committed to education and studies beyond my specialized areas. I teach courses in basic microbiology, spectroscopy, endocrinology, and other related subjects for Bachelor's and Master's degree programs. I believe in continuous learning and embrace opportunities to learn from others while offering assistance and support whenever possible, Insha Allah.

In my research, I analyze probiotics, plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria, lactic acid bacteria, zoonotic pathogens, and glycan-modifying enzymes in bacteria and fungi. These investigations shed light on the beneficial functions, metabolic activities, ecophysiology, and pathogenesis of microbes, enhancing our understanding of their roles in various ecosystems.

Throughout my career, I actively participated in multiple projects involving beneficial and pathogenic microbes and their genomics, metabolomics, bioinformatics, and biotransformation. I also conducted research on the catabolic pathways of glycoconjugates in yeasts, unraveling intricate processes within microbial systems.

Driven by a strong desire to foster knowledge and make meaningful contributions to the field of biochemistry and microbiology, I'm dedicated to mentoring and guiding aspiring researchers. I strive to share my expertise, collaborate with fellow scientists, and explore new frontiers in microbial science, constantly pushing the boundaries of knowledge and innovation.
