HOPE Lab Research Framework
Our research is organized through the HOPE Lab 1H → 2O → 3P → 4E translational framework, connecting fundamental biological discovery with applications in One Health, microbial biotechnology, food systems, agriculture, and environmental sustainability.
1H | One Health
Understanding biological processes that influence human, animal, plant, and environmental health through microbiology, microbial biochemistry, probiotics, pathogens, antimicrobial resistance, microbiomes, and host–microbe interactions.
2O | Organisms · Omics
Exploring diverse microorganisms and biological systems using genomics, glycomics, metabolomics, microbiome analysis, and related omics approaches to uncover their functional diversity and biological significance.
3P | Pathways · Probiotics · Protection
Investigating metabolic pathways and microbial products—including exopolysaccharides, antimicrobial compounds, biosurfactants, pigments, and enzymes—to develop innovative applications for health, food systems, agriculture, and environmental protection.

Understanding how biological systems interact, adapt, and evolve across natural and engineered ecosystems while translating discoveries into sustainable solutions for health, food, agriculture, and the environment.
Research Themes from BPM Repository
Bioactive Molecules
We investigate microbial metabolites with applications in health, food biotechnology, and environmental sustainability. Current research explores exopolysaccharides, antimicrobial compounds, pigments, biosurfactants, enzymes, and other bioactive molecules with probiotic, industrial, and biotechnological potential.
Beneficial Microorganisms
Our research focuses on beneficial microorganisms, particularly lactic acid bacteria (LAB), plant growth-promoting bacteria, and other functional microbes. We investigate probiotic properties, host–microbe interactions, food fermentation, plant health, and microbiome-associated functions within a One Health framework.
Pathogenic Microorganisms
We study foodborne, clinical, veterinary, and phytopathogenic microorganisms to understand their biology, virulence, antimicrobial resistance, and ecological interactions. Particular emphasis is placed on developing sustainable biological strategies for pathogen detection, prevention, and control.
Food Safety & Public Health
Our work addresses microbial food safety, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), food preservation, and evidence-based probiotic interventions. By integrating microbiology with food science, we seek sustainable solutions that improve food quality, public health, and nutritional security.
Microbial Ecology
We explore microbial diversity across fermented foods, gastrointestinal microbiomes, plant-associated environments, marine ecosystems, and extreme habitats. Culture-dependent studies, microbiome analysis, and ecological investigations reveal how microorganisms adapt, interact, and contribute to ecosystem function.
Genomics & Bioinformatics
Whole-genome sequencing, comparative genomics, glycomics, metabolomics, microbiome analysis, and computational biology enable us to characterize microbial diversity and functional potential. Genome mining, phylogenomics, molecular docking, and systems-level analyses help identify genes, metabolic pathways, and bioactive molecules with applications in biotechnology, agriculture, and health.
