HOPE Lab: The Next Chapter of BPM 

The Biochemistry & Pathogenesis of Microbes (BPM) Research Group has evolved into HOPE Lab (Laboratory for Health, Omics and Pathway Exploration), an interdisciplinary research laboratory in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Chittagong, Bangladesh. This transition reflects the expanding scope of our research while continuing the scientific foundation established through BPM. Our mission remains the same — to advance high-quality, interdisciplinary research that connects fundamental biological discoveries with meaningful impact for health, food systems, agriculture, and the environment.


Continuing the BPM Legacy

HOPE Lab builds upon the research, publications, and collaborations established through BPM while expanding into new areas of microbial biochemistry, microbiology, One Health, and multi-omics research. Our work integrates genomics, glycomics, metabolomics, microbiome science, bioinformatics, and systems biology to investigate biological pathways, host–microbe–environment interactions, and bioactive molecules relevant to human, animal, plant, and environmental health.  

Current research spans One Health probiotics, lactic acid bacteria, functional foods, microbial ecology, extremophiles, bioactive exopolysaccharides (EPS), antimicrobial resistance (AMR), plant-associated microorganisms, sustainable agriculture, environmental biotechnology, industrial biotechnology, microbial metabolites, and antimicrobial discovery. Through biochemical, molecular, genetic, and omics-based approaches, we seek to translate biological discoveries into practical, evidence-based solutions that benefit both people and the planet.
