October 2010 marked an unforgettable trip to Rajasthan, the land of forts, palaces, and deserts. My wife and I, along with a colleague and his wife, joined a conducted group tour from Kolkata. The journey was not just about places but also the people we met and the experiences that enriched our memories.

We embarked on a train from Kolkata to Jodhpur, where the tour manager’s hospitality immediately stood out. He ensured we were served delicious meals and kept the group lively. Along the way, we bonded with fellow travelers, especially an elderly couple whose warmth and wisdom added charm to our trip.
Upon reaching Jodhpur, we checked into our hotel and refreshed ourselves with breakfast. A short walk revealed the city’s charm, with glimpses of the majestic Umaid Bhavan Palace and the towering Mehrangarh Fort from a nearby hill. After lunch, our group explored these landmarks up close. The architecture and grandeur left us awestruck, marking a fantastic start to our journey.

The next morning, we departed for Jaisalmer, the Golden City. After lunch, we ventured to the Sam Sand Dunes, where the desert unfolded its magic. Later, we returned to our hotel, and from its rooftop dining area, we enjoyed a mesmerizing view of Sonar Kella (Golden Fort) glowing under the moonlight.

The journey then took us to Mount Abu, Rajasthan’s only hill station. The chilly weather was a welcome contrast to the desert heat. At the Sunset Point, we watched a breathtaking sunset that painted the mountains in hues of gold and orange.
The next morning, we visited Nakki Lake, surrounded by misty hills, and enjoyed a relaxing paddleboat ride. The highlight of Mount Abu was the Dilwara Temples, a marvel of intricate marble carvings. We also indulged in some shopping, especially traditional jewelry for the ladies.

En route to Udaipur, we stopped at Haldighati, the historic battlefield of Maharana Pratap, and spent time at a museum dedicated to his legacy. By evening, we reached Udaipur, the City of Lakes, and settled into our hotel.
The following day, we explored Udaipur’s gems: the grand City Palace, the tranquil Saheliyon Ki Bari, and the Moti Magri memorial. In the evening, a stroll around Lake Pichola offered serene views and a peaceful end to the day.

Our journey continued to Chittorgarh Fort, a magnificent structure steeped in history and valor. Later, we reached Pushkar, where we visited the Ajmer Sharif Dargah early the next morning. The spiritual energy of the place was captivating. Pushkar’s serene lake and Brahma Temple added to the charm of this holy town.
