Digha, a picturesque seaside town in West Bengal, is one of the most popular beach destinations in eastern India. Known for its serene beaches, fresh seafood, and charming coastal vibe, Digha offers a perfect getaway for relaxation and exploration. Our trip to Digha in June 2022 was a delightful blend of nature, adventure, and leisure.
New Digha Beach: A clean and calm beach, ideal for long walks and refreshing baths.
Old Digha Market: A bustling marketplace offering souvenirs, local crafts, and fresh seafood.
Talsari Beach: A pristine, scenic beach accessible by boat during high tide.
Chandaneswar Temple: A revered temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located near the Odisha border.
Shankarpur: A serene fishing village with a tranquil beach and a glimpse of the fisherfolk's lifestyle.
Mohona Region: A stunning confluence of the sea and river, home to fish trawlers and a wholesale fish market.
Dheusagar Park: A beautifully landscaped park in New Digha, perfect for a relaxing evening stroll.
The best time to visit Digha is from October to March when the weather is pleasant and ideal for beach activities. However, even in June, the charm of Digha’s beaches and its surrounding attractions made our trip unforgettable.
Beach Safety: Stick to designated bathing areas for safety. Avoid swimming during high tide.
Local Cuisine: Don’t miss the fresh seafood, especially crab, prawns, and fish preparations.
Shopping: Bargain for the best deals at Old Digha Market for seashell crafts and souvenirs.
Transport: Toto rickshaws are convenient for local travel; negotiate fares in advance.
Nearby Attractions: Include Talsari, Shankarpur, and the Mohona region in your itinerary for a complete experience.
In June 2022, my family and I set out on a delightful trip to Digha, a serene coastal town in West Bengal, known for its golden beaches and tranquil ambiance. It was a cherished group — my parents, my wife, and me — and we were all eager to escape the city's hustle and enjoy some quality time together by the sea. This trip had been in the works for weeks, and the excitement was evident as we packed our bags and started our journey by cab from Kolkata early in the morning. The prospect of sunlit shores, fresh seafood, and memorable family moments had us looking forward to every part of the adventure.
We started our journey to Digha by cab early in the morning and reached by noon. The moment we arrived, the fresh sea breeze and the sound of crashing waves instantly rejuvenated us. Our hotel in New Digha was conveniently located near the beach, and after settling in, we wasted no time heading to the shore.
The golden sands and inviting waters of New Digha Beach beckoned us for a long, refreshing bath. The waves were gentle, and the ambiance was lively with families and tourists enjoying the sun and sea. Lunch at our hotel’s restaurant was a treat—delicious local seafood that perfectly complemented the coastal vibe.
In the afternoon, we strolled along the scenic beachside road to Old Digha. The walk was delightful, offering beautiful views of the sea. We spent time exploring the Old Digha Market, where we picked up souvenirs and gifts for our loved ones. As the sun set, we returned to New Digha by Toto rickshaw, enjoying the cool evening breeze.
The next morning, we set out early for Talsari Beach, a lesser-known gem near the Odisha border. The journey was exciting, as the high tide required a short boat ride to reach the beach. Talsari's untouched beauty and calm waters left us enchanted. We spent hours soaking in the tranquility and taking in the scenic surroundings.
On our way back, we visited the Chandaneswar Temple, a revered Shiva temple that is a must-visit for those exploring the region. The spiritual aura and traditional architecture of the temple added a cultural touch to our day.
After lunch, we embarked on a trip to Shankarpur, a serene fishing village with a picturesque beach. The quiet charm of Shankarpur was a refreshing contrast to the bustling vibe of Digha. From there, we visited the Mohona region, where the sea meets the river. The sight of fish trawlers docked and the lively fish wholesale market provided a glimpse into the local lifestyle.
The next morning, we rose early to catch the last glimpse of Digha's serene beaches. After a leisurely breakfast, we packed our bags and started our journey back to Kolkata by cab, carrying with us fond memories of a beautiful trip.
Our trip to Digha was a perfect mix of relaxation and exploration. From the vibrant New Digha Beach to the serene beauty of Talsari and Shankarpur, every moment was filled with joy and discovery. The charm of the sea, the warmth of the locals, and the delicious coastal cuisine made this trip unforgettable.
Digha’s beauty and simplicity left an indelible mark on our hearts, and we can’t wait to return to this coastal paradise.
