The image on the left was finished on New Years Eve 2022, and the image on the right was the redraw I did for New Years Day 2023. I feel like this shows my growth over the year very well- I have a much better understanding of characters in space, use of reference material, and developed a strange habit of drawing space instead of a standard sky. Designs also got heavily exaggerated! I deliberately strayed away from the same color scheme as the original, as I felt the warm-cool separation between the foreground and background helped. In retrospect I should have traced the shoes though, I like the original ones a lot more and forgot grass to ground them.
Full Disclaimer! A handful of these use backgrounds from other media, so if it looks a lot more detailed, then I probably didn't draw it!
These were drawn between February and May
from August to December
Done between September and December
These were all drawn between September and the end of November. This class focused on HEAVY use of mockups, critiques, and revision, so while there are a low number of final products, there are a LOT of different variations for each project.
The first project from the semester was designing a character to fit into the world of TMNT, and the final project was redesigning that character with what we'd learned. I messed up the spray placement in thefinal but other than that am MUCH happier with it.
I didn't collect every sketch (there's probably double what I did find and that's a LOT to track down and photograph), and a few drawings were excluded if A. I really despised them B. they were spoilers C. I forgot about them or D. They were animated and this website wouldn't let me upload it. I got a lot better at proportions and basic structure, dramatically increased the quality of my comics, experimented a lot more with various mediums, and developed a new love for using a physical sketchbook. I also was pretty bad about working on stuff consistently and while it has been fully sketched out, the next comic arc was repeatedly put off for other spur of the moment drawings (especially in December). Hopefully I'm able to get better about focusing next year.
Thanks for sticking around!
