Access to Okinawa

LinkLink

The gateway to Okinawa is Naha Airport.
There are two ways to get to Okinawa: by air or by ship, but it is not practical to use a ship because it takes days to get there and there are only a few routes.
It takes 25 hours from Kagoshima, the nearest harbor. We recommend flying when coming to Okinawa.

Naha Airport serves 8 international destinations and 21 domestic destinations with direct flights.

* Due to the effects of Covid-19, some flights may be reduced or cancelled. For the latest information, please check the official websites of each airline.

About accommodation

Since Golden Week (GW) is over and the rainy season is about to begin, this is the most inexpensive time of the year to stay in Naha. There is a wide range of hotels in Naha city, from luxury hotels to dormitories, so it is good to compare prices and so on.

However, if you are planning to have an after-after party, it would be convenient to stay between Asahibashi Station and Omoromachi Station of Yui-Rail.
(Okinawa has no concept of the last train, so if you consider taking a cab home after a drinking session, you will pay cab fare within 2,000 yen if you stay between the above stations.)

Bus

The Naha city buses run on the city line (circulating within Naha city) and the intercity line, and you can go anywhere in the city for 260 yen on the city line. The first ride on the intercity line costs 190 yen and the fare increases depending on the distance. Please note that there are two bus stops on Kokusai-dori(boulevard), one for the city line and the other for the intercity line.

There are also free tickets available for tourists, so please check out the various options.

Rental Cars

If you are planning to sightsee in Okinawa, a rental car is a convenient way to save time and go door-to-door. However, since it is difficult to predict the time due to traffic congestion in Naha City, which will be the area of the Anomaly, we recommend walking, taking the monorail, or riding a bicycle during the Anomaly.

Bicycle/Motorbike

There are also shared bicycles and rental bikes available in the city. The number of them is limited as there are not many available. If you are considering it, we recommend that you hold it as soon as possible. But... it's the rainy season, so you just have to hope it doesn't rain.

Monorail (Yui Rail)

The monorail runs 17 km from "Naha Airport Station" in Naha City, through the city center to "Tedako-Urasai Station" in Urasoe City, connecting the two stations in 37 minutes. The number of stations is 19.

You can ride Yui Rail with a ticket or an IC card such as OKICA, Suica, or any other transportation system IC card* that can be used interchangeably with Suica.
(*) KITACA, PASMO, MANACA, TOICA, PiTaPa, ICOCA, Hayakaken, NIMOCA, SUGOCA

To enter the station platform, pass the QR code part of the ticket through the ticket gate and the transportation system IC card through the ticket gate by holding the card over the reader (the blue light part) of the ticket gate.

Please be sure not to lose your QR boarding pass or transportation system IC card, as you will have to hold it over the ticket gate when you get off the train and exit the station platform in the same way.

* There is no place to insert paper tickets at automatic ticket gates. Paper tickets can also be entered and exited by IC touch. (How to ride Yui Rail)
