SPRING WREATH MAKING this March
We had an incredible time the the first ever Black Mount Community Fun Day. We were set up alongside other incredible community organisations and businesses and met so many new people! We met members of: Scottish Women's Institutes from both The Rural in Dolphinton, and Elsrickle SWRI; The Biggar and District Men's Shed; Elsrickle Hub; Errington Cheese; Biggar Community Market Garden; MacDiarmid's Brownsbank; British Hen Welfare Trust; Biggar Young Farmers; Scottish Fire and Rescue Service; Newmill Farm; Flo's Facepainting and Brae Cafe.
Our contribution to the day was a protest sign-making station in the new outdoor classroom in the school's community garden. The kids were invited to make protest signs to help slow down traffic in our villages - a direct response to your views in the community survey where 40% mentioned speeding and road safety as a pressing issue.
The kids then marched the signs down to the road to stage their protest, chanting SLOW DOWN IN OUR TOWNS and WHAT DO WE WANT? SLOWER CARS. WHEN DO WE WANT IT? NOW. We are even hearing from local residents that the signs are still having an effect almost a week later. Lets hope this is just the beginning of this awareness raising with drivers. Thanks for the energy and enthusiasm of the kids that took part.
A member of our community put together some data on 'timed gained by speeding' using Elsrickle as an example.Â
We love a bit of data! Especially as a reminder of what is important - road safety or saving 33.6seconds?
