In chapter 2 of the Book of Esther, King Xerxes no longer has a queen. His advisors suggest that he have a beauty contest to choose his new queen. Esther was an orphaned Jew and was raised by her Uncle Mordecai, and her uncle told her that she should be part of the beauty contest, but to not let them know that she was a Jew.
During the beauty contest, the young women were given beautiful clothes to wear, special makeup and baths.
Mordecai waited at the castle gate every day to hear how it went for Esther and the beauty contest. Esther was chosen by King Xerxes to be his queen!
One day as Mordecai was sitting by the castle gate and he heard some of the king's servants talking about overthrowing the king. He told Esther, and she told the king. The plot was found out and the servants were punished. The king was grateful.
God chose to use Esther to help His people. He can use you too! If you allow to be God your King, if you listen and obey him, if you accept His free gift of forgiveness and grace through Jesus, you too can be used for God's plan.
Let's compare King Xerxes to God our King:
Only looked at the outside appearance. He chose Esther based on her beauty.
Doesn't choose us based on our outward appearance, but on our heart.
Read chapter 2 of Esther.
God chooses his people based on their heart. How does this make you feel?
We were created to be used by God. We see that in Ephesians 2:8-10. Practice the verse.
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Pray and thank God for using regular people to share His love.
