2018 Biannual Retreat with Kit (05/20/2018)

단한장의 과학, 테크플러스 강연
첨단 기술과 예술, 인문과학의 융합을 모색하는 뜻깊은 자리가 마련된다. 한국산업기술진흥원(이하 KIAT)은 첨단기술과 인문, 예술을 융합한 신개념 지식콘서트 ‘tech+ (이하 테크플러스)’를 6일 건국대학교 새천년관 대공연장에서 개최한다고 5일 밝혔다. ‘테크플러스’는 기술에 인문학적 가치를 결합, 산업 기술 생태계를 확장하기 위한 지식 콘서트로, 산업통상자원부와 KIAT가 지난 2009년부터 9년째 개최하고 있는 행사다. 올해 주제는 ‘4차 산업혁명, Harmony(조화)에서 길을 찾다’로 4차 산업혁명 시대에서의 기술, 사회, 문화, 예술 등 다양한 분야의 융합 사례를 통해 새로운 가치를 조명할 것이다. 신관우 서강대 화학과 교수는 가정용 잉크젯 프린팅을 이용, 누구나 손쉽게 구할 수 있는 한 장의 종이에 혈당, 알츠하이머, 신장 이상 등을 검출할 수 있는 종이 전자 진단 칩을 개발하게 된 스토리를 상세히 들려준다. 특히 종이 진단 칩이 유용하게 활용될 수 있는 상황으로 재난 상황을 꼽으며 신속한 인명구조 및 치료에 큰 도움을 줄 수 있다는 점을 강조할 예정이다.
2017 서강-웨스트포인트 여름프로그램 '이 지난 7월부터 8월까지 본교에서 진행됐다. 미 육군사관학교인 웨스트포인트(West Point)의 우수 생도가 파견되어 본교 연구팀과 함께 연구를 수행하는 이 하계 학연 프로그램은 2015년부터 3년째 이어지고 있다. 올해 프로그램에서는 군복에 장착할 수 있는 '종이기반 온도센서'와 관련한 연구를 함께 진행했다. 웨스트포인트는 생도들을 세계 유수의 연구기관에 파견하여 기초과학 또는 국방기술 관련한 연구를 수행하는 학술 연수 프로그램(Academic Individual Advanced Development, AIAD)을 운영한다. 한국에서는 우리학교가 연구력을 인정받아 유일하게 선발되어 하계 학연 연수 프로그램을 함께 진행한다. 그 동안 해당 프로그램을 통해 스마트 군복 위장막 연구, 생체정보를 통한 휴대폰 지문정보 해독, 현장의 신속한 오염물 탐지 등의 연구 등을 진행했다. 올해 방문한 두명의 웨스트포인트 생도들은 본교 화학과 신관우 교수 연구팀과 함께 간단한 프린팅을 통해 군복이 스스로 외부 환경에 반응하고 정확한 온도나 환경의 변화를 감지하는 'Printing Based Thermo-sensor'에 대한 연구를 진행했다. 연구성과는 서강대, 웨스트포인트, 하버드대학이 함께 공동으로 논문을 발표할 계획이다.

본 연구실의 연구로, 집에서 쓰는 잉크젯 프린터와 스마트폰에 연결해 질병을 진단할 수 있는 종이 기반의 전자칩을 개발했다. 연구 결과는 국제 학술지 '어드밴스드 머티리얼스 테크놀로지'(Advanced Materials Technologies) 3월 16일 자에 표지논문으로 게재되었다. 종이 전자 진단칩은 기존의 실리콘과 같은 전자칩 기판을 사용하지 않고 일반 종이에 프린팅 기술을 이용해 전기신호를 제어하고 의학적 진단 및 분석을 가능하게 하는 칩을 말한다. 이 기술을 이용해 물방울의 이동시간과 이동방향, 반응시간 등을 제어한 종이 칩을 만들었다. 전도성 잉크가 배선된 종이 칩 표면 위에 전기장이 흐르면 진단에 필요한 시약이 섞이거나 반응하는 시간을 사전에 입력된 프로그램으로 정밀하게 제어할 수 있다.
