Marwa got her BSc degree in computer science from the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences (FCIS), Ain Shams university, Egypt. She worked as a teaching assistant in FCIS from 2002 to 2008. Her job was to structure, prepare, and teach the practical part of some of the courses in the labs. It also included supervising undergraduate research projects for senior students.  In 2008, she completed her postgraduate degree and thesis for the Master's in Mobile Agents Data Security. During her study, she investigated how to protect the database search results carried by a mobile code that is executed in a distributed environment. She then traveled to Qatar and worked as a programming tutor for three years in the Academic Resource Center in Carnegie Mellon University. There, her job was to assist freshmen and sophomores in parts of the programming courses that they couldn't fully comprehend during the lectures. This included one to one tutoring and also conducting group's revision lectures. She also assisted the professors in evaluating and grading the students' developed software pieces according to the course requirements. She later worked privately in developing document management and correspondences tracking systems. In Spring 2018, Marwa started her PhD at the faculty of Engineering-Qatar University. Her research interests are information retrieval and big data analytics, and she is currently exploring the problem of linking text documents using shared context and background knowledge.

"bigIR is my research family. It is my supportive environment, at which I share my research ideas and get feedback from my fellow researchers in the field. Our group meetings, discussions, and collaborative work raise our awareness in many areas in the IR field, not just our specific research topics. I believe also that my contribution to the group adds to me on the personal level, learning how to benefit others by sharing my knowledge and showing my support."
