Watheq Mansour

Watheq Mansour is currently doing his PhD at the University of Queensland. Watheq received his M.Sc. in Computer Science from Qatar University and his B.Sc. in Informatics Engineering from the University of Aleppo in Syria. Watheq joined bigIR team in 2020 as a Research Assistant in an NPRP project focusing on early detection of fake news. Watheq's previous research focus was on mitigating the bad impact of fake news by detecting the previously fact-checked claims over Twitter. His research interests include information retrieval, natural language processing, and deep learning. Apart from the research experience, Watheq spent more than a year as a mobile developer at Optecks company.

Research Activities

• Co-organized the Qur’an QA 2023 Shared Task at ArabicNLP 2023 co-located with EMNLP 2023.

• Co-organized the Qur’an QA 2022 Shared Task at OSACT 2022 Workshop, LREC 2022.

• Co-organized CheckThat! Lab at CLEF 2021: Detecting Check-Worthy Claims, Previously Fact-Checked Claims, and Fake News. (2021)

Group Activities

• Reading group leader of bigIR research team (2021-2022).

Teaching Experience

• Distinguished Graduate Award in Master from Qatar University in 2022.
