Dr. Mucahid Kutlu is an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Qatar University (QU). He holds BS and MS degrees from Computer Engineering Department at Bilkent University in Türkiye. He received his PhD degree from the Computer Science and Engineering Department at Ohio State University in 2015. After his PhD study, he worked as a post-doctoral researcher in the joint project of Qatar University and University of Texas at Austin between 2015 and 2018, being a proud member of bigIR team. After the project finished, he joined the Department of Computer Engineering at TOBB University of Economics and Technology (TOBB ETU) in Türkiye as an assistant professor in 2018. After working five years at TOBB ETU, he decided to re-join bigIR team 🙂 and started to work as an assistant professor at QU in 2023.
His research interests include natural language processing, information retrieval, crowdsourcing, and social media analysis. He published around 60 papers in top venues such as Information Processing and Management, SIGIR, CIKM, NeurIPS, and Transactions on Information Forensics and Security. One of his papers received Best Paper Award at AAAI HCOMP in 2016 and his another paper received Best Student Paper Award at ECIR in 2019. Dr. Kutlu has also successfully finished two projects funded by The Scientific and Technological Research Institution of Turkey (TUBITAK) and another one funded by The Black Sea Trust for Regional Cooperation.
