About me: I am a Palestinian researcher, born and raised in Qatar. I hold a PhD degree in Computer Science from Qatar University.
Research interests:
Information retrieval (IR) over tweets with special focus on Arabic text. Problems I worked on include: ad-hoc search, filtering, summarization and question answering.
Evaluation of IR systems over the Arabic Web. I led the work on developing the EveTAR multi-task test collection over Arabic tweets and ArTEST Web search test collection.
Research activities:
Participated in organizing CheckThat! lab at CLEF2019, 2020 & 2021 and lead organizing for Arabic tasks in the lab
I was a regular member of Qatar University’s research team participating in the Text Retrieval Conference (TREC) since 2013.
Participated in organizing the BorDyn workshop at the ECIR’18 conference.
Served as a reviewer for several top venues in IR including: SIGIR, CIKM, ECIR , ICTIR, IP&M journal and TKDE.
Achievements:
Awarded Student Travel Grant at SIGIR 2020
Accepted to volunteer at SIGIR 2020
Won the best paper award at AIRs conference in 2015.
Received several travel grants to top-tier conferences such as SIGIR and WSDM.
I was invited to attend the Microsoft Research summer school in 2015.
In 2016, I was invited to represent SIGIR at the ACM’s Celebration of 50 Years of the ACM Turing Award.
I served as a SIGIR student liaison for several years.
