Nineteen Sixteen

Eau Claire State Normal School was opened in the fall of 1916. At the time it only consisted of one building, Schofield Hall. From 1916 the school offered two-year elementary and three-year secondary teachers school courses.

The name of the school changed in 1927 to Eau Claire State Teachers College and was authorized to offer four-year programs. They were also granted bachelor of science in education degrees in 1937.

In 1951 came another name change. The school became Wisconsin State College at Eau Claire. Along with the name change came even more programs, buildings, and land acquired.

1964-1971 were big years for the campus. It brought seven residence halls, recreation and food centers, multiple academic buildings, and the McIntyre Library

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire came to be following the merger of the Wisconsin State University System. Thus began the school we know now. One Question reoccurred through all the change- “What is a Blugold?”
