A comic from 2007. Based on before the beginning of the story. Sikue and Tatsuma tell the tale of when they were found after being transformed to "human" benta from flowers. (not a comic I am fond of but unfortunately it is canon)
Admittedly, I somewhat resent this comic. Although it gives the girls a proper backstory and explanation to why they have been loners throughout most of their lives, it requires the townspeople, ESPECIALLY Deshin, to act completely irrationally.
You always have the bleeding-hearts that want to help, the cautious that would politely reject taking in strangers, and the bullies that would find the girls as an easy target for ridicule, but I think the dominating voice of the people would just be curious. Hate-mobs exist, but they, and Deshin, really needed more fuel thrown into the fire to reject the girls, you know?
Of course, that would have been a lot less thrilling for the story. I just really hate the trope where townspeople turn into a mass of like-minded strawmen, and even back then I tried to emphasize that not ALL of the townspeople were in a tizzy, but... I guess I'm just saying that I'd do things differently next time. :P
