Achieving each step in this Master’s program has been a learning experience, to say the least. Reflecting on the material learned over the years has helped me understand that this practicum is more than just accumulating hours. This program has helped to develop an ethical understanding when working with clients. This opportunity has helped to learn the professional responsibility to observe, learn, participate, and ask questions to support growth. Utilizing the ACA Code of Ethics when experiencing an ethical dilemma can help to distinguish steps in the best interest of the client, as well as learning to seek out the right information when needed. Another area that a counselor in training is required to be knowledgeable of is state and federal regulations where they plan to practice. Engaging in learning continual reflective practices by understanding limitations of confidentiality, and providing ongoing support when there are limitations. Provide support to the clients to foster autonomy. I continue to use curiosity to seek out professional feedback and learning opportunities that influence my counselor identity. I continue to implement the flexibility to modify the therapeutic approach to tailor to client needs and use feedback from the supervisor to implement the best services. Other considerations to apply are keeping up with current trends by developing further education by organizations that focus on learning skills and interventions.
