Developing a therapeutic relationship with clients can have implications for various reasons. Awareness plays a major role in how personal beliefs, actions, and standards are managed in every therapeutic relationship. Ethical standards are developed to understand what responsibilities are important for a counselor in training and what areas to avoid. Using ethical practices can help to increase a therapeutic relationship with an understanding of the best interests of the client. Understanding and having the flexibility of learning how challenges can develop is helpful to understand where one can start to repair the therapeutic relationship, if needed, or even prevent tarnishing the therapeutic relationship. s the counselor’s ability to be authentic, transparent, and emotionally present. It is one of the foundational conditions identified in humanistic and person‑centered counseling. Having the guidance to be a genuine counselor, I plan to not hide behind a professional façade and make sure that I communicate honestly and behave consistently with ethical standards. Other ways that this can be maintained are having clear boundaries with the client and communicate role in therapy.
